Unbelievable

Perhaps it is that I am not traveling enough but I am connected to the Internet on an airplane. Unbelievable.

What a day!

We had a great holiday weekend- I got to spend my last day of "staycation" with the boys at Westover- always such a treat.  Vake and Davis loved rolling around in mud puddles- I've got to post some of the pictures of Vake.  Saturday, Sunday and Monday were quiet and fun- we've had amazing weather here although I think we are probably at the end of it and it will start to get hot now.

I had a jury trial today- it was the case that I tried to a hung jury in January.  I supervised a younger lawyer who tried it and did a good job- it was a case with terrible facts and our client had a bad record for convictions of this same offense.  The jury had to give him 1 year and could have given him up to 5.  They did 2.5, which I still think is a lot.  Ugh.  Oh well.

Eric and I are headed to Klamath Falls, Oregon tomorrow right before family vacation.  You know what they say: a change is as good as a rest.  I'll try to remember to take the camera.

First Baptist Preschool: End of the year: Unbelievable

What a treat this year has been.  Miss Rosemary and Miss Jessica have just been such a blessing: so patient and kind to my "energetic" little boy- and he is so big and so grown now.  Here he is with his class on the last day of school.  He is wearing his "sunshirt" from his beloved Taren.

Am I the only one who thinks that Miss Rosemary looks happier than everyone?

And tell me that these boys do not look like extras from the movie "The Hangover."  At any moment, expect Vake to give the "Wolfpack Speech" just like Alan.

"How about that ride in, I guess that why they call it Sin City... ha ha. You guys might not know this, but I consider myself a bit of a loner. I tend to think of myself, as a one man wolf pack. Though when my sister brought Doug home I knew he was one of my own. And my wolf pack, it grew by one. So there was two of us in the wolf pack, I was alone first in the pack and then Doug joined later. And six months ago when Doug introduced me to you guys, I thought "wait a second could it be?" and now I know for sure I just added two more guys to my wolf pack. Four of us wolves running around the desert together in Las Vegas, looking for strippers and cocaine. So tonight, I make a toast!"

Stayin' Alive

It's Thursday of the Mom week and the good news is that all four boys are still alive and welll.  We had a low moment yesterday when Huff was rashy because of an unfortunate oatmeal raisin cookie, but putting that aside for a minute, we are all good today.  I've been very lucky that Mom and Eric have been available to help so much.

What's been hardest?  Probably handling two babies (toddlers, now, really) at the same time.  When they are playing, they're fine.  And they mostly do parallel play, which is great.  I've never been mom of the year when it comes to playing on the floor with them, but I do ok.  The other real challenge has been managing my workload while I've been out of the office.  We have some end of the month stuff, like docket call, that's not easy to handle remotely.

Tomorrow, we'll head to Westover with all four boys and the big boys will run around like crazy men, which makes life a lot easier for everyone involved..

Vake and Florachicken

I wish this picture was bigger because it is so awesome.

Brian and Matt got chickens a couple of weeks ago (for those of you not in Richmond, the city just changed the ordinances to permit us to have chickens in the city limits).  They asked us if we, too, wanted to get chickens.  We do not.

Out of an abundance of kindness, Brian, Matt and Oren let Vake name one of their chickens.  We started out with the name "VakeandHuff" but changed when we realized that a chicken is a girl.  There was some discussion of the name "Mommy" for a chicken, but then we finally arrived at Flora, for Vake's undisputed favorite girl, Flora.

Pray for us!

Starting tomorrow, Taren will begin her 3.5 weeks off!  Good for her.  She is going to Italy to take her last coursework in her master's program before she begins the clinical work.

For those who are playing along at home, we've had Taren for 4.5 magical years.  She is truly our Nanny Poppins.  She has done such a good job with all four boys!  She has singlehandly raised these children.  I've tricked myself into thinking she would just come and volunteer her free time with my boys.  Which is obviously not true.

But next week will be a horse of a different color.  I am taking the whole week off and am going to just do the best I can to take care of all four boys.  I've got big ambitions that involve getting a lot of mulch in the front yard, but honestly, we'll be doing well if everyone just makes it through the experience alive!!!!!!!

The ears

My sweet little Gil went to the audiologist today to have his hearing tested. The short version of the long story is that he's got some very mild hearing deficits: so mild in fact that the audiologist is hoping they can be corrected by some in-office procedures by the ent.

So the short version is that we are headed back to the ent on Thursday.

I am not as worried as you might think. He is responding well to our voices. I'd just like for him to have a few more words at this stage in the game, but really, with vake who has a chance to get a word in edgewise?

Wheeee.....

Mother's Day Celebration

We had the nicest weekend!

It started Friday with a school breakfast- such a treat to be at school with vake! Yippee!

My sweet boy all dressed up and ready to sing. So hard to believe there ar only two weeks of school left!

On Saturday, aunt Courtney came for a visit. Her big news is that she has been promoted to academic dean of Foxcroft. Big news. We are so proud of her accomplishment! We had dinner with her and some friends.

Today, I got a nice card from Vake and Gil and then we went to church, then had lunch with Mary Sabra! What a nice Mother's Day!

Just the Stats...

...back from a short blog break....here we are!

I took Gil to the pediatrician yesterday- he's the 85% for both height and weight and has a ginormous head- still off the charts!  Wheeee!!!!!  It is so funny that he seems so small to me- Vake was such a little chunker at the same age that there's no comparison.

He's doing great- toddling all over the place with his sweet little baby glasses- my little angel.

He's not saying as many words as Vake was saying at this stage of the game but I am sure he'll catch up soon- it is very obvious that he understands everything that's going on!  He's hilarious- his new favorite game is to throw a ball and then to chase after it.

I've been busy at work but just settled a couple of nasty cases so I've got a little bit more free time all of a sudden!
