The Move: FAQs

Ok, so the questions that people are asking about the move fall into three broad categories: job, geography, and family and life situation.

1.  Job.

     A.  What is Eric going to be doing?  Eric took an amazing job with Jeld-Wen Corporation, which is the world's largest maker of windows and doors.  He will be responsible for the company's labor and employment issues, globally.

     B.  What is Alison going to be doing?  A little less clear at the minute.  I am in the process of waiving into the Oregon Bar and then we'll see.  I'm pretty much open to anything: prosecuting or defense, civil or criminal.  I'm going to get my license and then get out there and make some connections and see what makes sense.  It is a little hard to know what would be a good fit without being on the ground there but I am pretty sure I'll find something I love.

     C.  What is Vake going to be doing?  Vake's job will be the four-year-old program at Roosevelt Elementary School.  He will go probably 4 days a week.

     D.  What is Gil going to be doing?  Being as cute as ever!

2.  Geography.

    A.  So where is Klamath Falls, really?  It is 5.5 hours south of Portland, 5.5 hours north of San Francisco.

     B.  What is Klamath Falls near?  Crater Lake and Mount Shasta.

     C.  What's the weather like?  Cold cold winters and weather like San Diego between April and October.

     D.  How big is Klamath Falls?  About 40,000 people.

     E.  Is there shopping there?  Not really, other than the Fred Meyer.

     F.  Is it beautiful?  Absolutely.

3.  Family and Life Situation.

     A.  How is Alison taking it?  I am hanging in there.  Obviously, it is a massive change but I am really excited for the opportunity for Eric.

     B.  How is Mary Sabra?  She is remarkably sanguine about the whole situation.  Many people forget that she spent her childhood as a Navy junior so she is very matter-of-fact about moving.  She is excited for the hiking and out-of-doors.

     C.  How is Vake doing?  He is, as usual, totally unphased.  He is looking forward to having bunkbeds.

     D.  Where are you all going to live.  932 N. Eldorado Street, Klamath Falls, OR.  It is in the Roosevelt school district, which was impressive when we toured there.

     E.  When is the move actually happening?  Eric will be there to start work August 5.  Alison and the children will be there on August 24.

     F.  Are you taking the dogs?  Yes.

     G.  What are you doing with the house on Boulevard?  We are selling it.

     H.  How's the packing going?  Slowly.

We're getting there.  Rome was not built in a day, you know.  But we are looking forward to a new chapter, albeit a surprising one!
