The new art (sidonie Caron) is installed and awesome

Obviously our whole house is a complete work in progress. But. Almost one year later, we found the perfect piece of art for our mantel.

We love it. Love it!

Last day of school and graduation

What a difference 9 months makes. We finished up the school year yesterday- I am going to find a picture of the first day of school, too, and post it for comparison's sake. We have had such a great school year and are now looking ahead to kindergarten!

Peace out.

Singing the graduation songs.

Tball

I've now finished coaching Vake's spring soccer team- the grasshoppers. Around here, though, we've moved on to tall where I am mercifully not the coach. I will post game pictures soon, but here we are at a practice!

Sue is right!

Sue, Eric's mom, sent me an email today reminding me that I have fallen WAY behind in posting to the blog.  It's true- too true.

Do I have an excuse?  Not really- life's been crazy but no more so than it often is- yikes!  We are all trucking along here.  Vake is almost done with school and is SO excited to go to Kindergarten next year.  We have found a lovely little preschool for Gil for the fall.  My work is not super easy right this second- I am still learning the ropes for Oregon practice.  Those of you who know me KNOW that I hate hate hate learning new things- a lot- so I am hanging in there!!!!!!

Wheeee!

I promise to try to be better on posting.

So proud of us: bathroom tile

This morning, here's what the boys' bathroom looked like.

With the help of our nanny's wonderful husband, we got the wallboard up this week. Last night, we went to the Home Depot and got a bunch of white subway tile and this morning, I ran out to diamond home improvement and got some shelf pieces.

And then we tiled, and tiled. And tiled. We started by about 11 and were wrapping it up by about 6.

But it looks amazing. Truly truly amazing. I am so happy with the progress.

So tomorrow, we will grout and I will work on getting all the wallpaper off! Wheee!

The weekend of light fixtures

Eric and I have tried to regroup and prioritize what we are working on in the house each week. The real trick is not to bite off more than we can chew.

So this weekend, we planned three projects- a trip to the dump with all the yucky carpet, removal of a bunch of doors we didn't need, and the installation of a bunch of light fixtures.

Check it out- how awesome is this bathroom going to be once the ugly floor is gone.

The antler chandelier in the living room- so fun.

And my grandmother's chandelier in the dining room.

New bathroom shower curtain

I am posting this from my phone, so forgive the crummy quality of this post but I am so thrilled with my new shower curtain.

Easy and I have a tiny little bathroom with a 1960s tile shower. I loved the tile but couldn't figure out exactly how to manage it. We thought about redoing the bath, but have decided that a new floor and a crisp paint job are much more affordable. So what to do with the tile- well- we went for it with a coral and turquoise combo. Anyone who knows me knows that is me being a huge risk taker! Behold!

They're real and they're magnificent...

After 6 long weeks of waiting, we've got two, count them, two new sofas. They are awesome and make everything else in the room look totally shabby. So so so excited to have them! Wheee!

Sneak peek of the boys' new rooms

So we went from unpleasant ancient wallpaper to this- cheerful green for Gil's room and happy blue for Vake's.

And vake wanted red curtains. How much do we love the jc Penney Roman shades for little boys rooms. Bargain.

What a difference a weekend makes!

I'll post pictures of the boys repainted rooms as soon as we get their ceiling fans in, but whilst I was painting Gil's room, Eric was demoing the old 1980s tub...ugh. They built it to last and it was a pain to get it all out! Here's the view from the top of the stairs.

Awesome 80s wallpaper

The destroyed bathtub surround. New bathtub arrives tomorrow and then we will get busy tiling.

Renovating the house!

It seems so odd to be writing about it without any pictures to show- and Eric and I are doing it exactly the opposite way that we did the Boulevard house- mostly because there's not a lot of demo and what we are working on is mainly painting and (hopefully) tiling.

So two weekends ago, we took out the old yucky living room carpet. It cost us $16 to get rid of it at the dump. This past weekend, we took down all the wallpaper in the boys' rooms and painted Vake's room.

I got an estimate from the plumber to take out the old bathtub upstairs in the boys' bathroom and to put in a normal tub and shower. It is a lot cheaper if we do the demo, so our big project this weekend is to demo the area around the tub! Wheeeeee- I've never really done demo like this so I am a little afraid. But even more than afraid, totally thrilled to be getting rid of the crummy crummy bathtub that feels like a death trap to get the boys in and out.

Happy birthday to V!

What an amazing party and weekend we had! The best news was that daddy got home in time for the birthday celebration- he touched down late Thursday night! Then, Friday night we had another treat- all the Ukrop ladies arrived from the Rva! So so so much fun.

Saturday marked the bounce-house bday party! Whoooo-hoo. We had about 8 of Vake's little buddies there. Magic.

Somehow Gil wound up in a turtleneck and short pants!

Can you believe he's five?

My precious five year old!

How in the world did we get here! It was just yesterday that I was at st. Mary's welcoming this little nugget to the world.

Today, I have an independent soul who knows what he loves.

So cute.

Celebrating the big f-I-v-e! So hard to believe!

What a lucky mom I am!

Defense verdict

One of the primary advantages to practicing in Oregon as opposed to Virginia is that a judge sentences after a jury trial- the best of both worlds. Defended a guy who was accused of kicking a hole in a jail wall while waiting to be booked. Da could not prove intentionality.

I am still getting used to all these new rules.

Our biddy ball experience

Look at my little all star- love this little athlete so much. Vake loved running around, he loved putting on the team uniform. Is he a good player? Unfortunately, not so much. But we think he is going to shape up to be fabulous on defense.

Here is my precious team with "coach martin". Ha. Somewhere the universe is laughing at me- if you had asked me if I was going to be a biddy ball coach I would have laughed!

My first snowman

Of course, in the four (almost five!) years of Vake's life, there was never enough snow off a snowman- we were able to make up for it this afternoon and Eric helped vake make his first snowman!

New year, new job.

Who has two thumbs and a new job? This girl! Yippee.

So I started today and it send more fun than a barrel of monkeys. Drove one county over (for my east coast peeps, that's like a drive of 90 minutes one way) and met with a guy whose case I am trying on Thursday. Nothing like getting back into it with a bang!

Yeehaw!

Don't get me wrong, I loved being at home for four months, but I think all members of our family would agree that mommy does better when she is on a schedule!
