Baby Gil: two months

Can you believe it? My sweet baby is two months old today! He tipped the scales at 14 pounds, 10 ounces today at th pediatrician's office. That's a little heavier (3 oz.) than his brother was. He was 23 and a half inches long and his head circumference was 17 inches. He's continuing to be off the charts in all categories!

And what a month this has been. We put aside all health concerns only to bounce back into st. Mary's. Hopefully that's all behind us now!

At two months, Gil:

  • Is a huge huge snuggler
  • Wears a size 1/2 diaper
  • Wears mostly six month size clothes but 12 months are starting to fit
  • Has started giving us the sweetest gummy grins
  • Has good head control
  • Is settling into a good sleep schedule.p schedule
So hard to even remember life without you, sweet boy!

Whew!!! Are you serious?

I am SO sorry I have been MIA- trying to keep up with two is not harder than you'd think but Baby Gil gave us a run for our money again last week!!!!! This is a cute picture of Gil with his cousin to try to make up for it.

Life should be calming down again. In fact, I've got Gil asleep and Taren's got Vake at the grocery store.

So the short version of the long story is that last Tuesday night (is it possible that it has only been a week?), Gil was coughing in the night a LOT. And in a way that I had never heard a baby or a little boy do. It scared me enough that I took him to the pediatrician, with the assumption that the pediatrician would sweetly send me on my way. I was so certain of this that I did not get a cup of coffee beforehand.

BIG MISTAKE. I rolled up and little Gil's respiration rate was up around 65 breaths a minute. Sweet, careful Dr. Kim at Monument Avenue Pediatrics sent us to the pediatric emergency room after a breathing treatment didn't work. The wonderful pediatrician in the emergency room admitted Gil to the hospital- there is nothing scarier that a pediatric ward, by the way (and as it just so happens, we were right across the hall from where Mom was with baby Anne about 34 years earlier!!!!).

The admitting nurse was hilarious- referred to baby Gil as her "porkchop" and very efficiently rolled him into a tight swaddle and tipped his little head up at a 45 degree angle to drain the mucus. She suctioned him and administered breathing treatments. He didn't get better, so the wonderful respiratory therapists worked on him all night and at 2 am, he finally turned a corner. We were released by Thursday at noon.

Now, I will tell you, St. Mary's is amazing in so many ways but the accomodations for parents are not one of them. There are pull-out chairs that pull out to single mattresses on the floor- not so comfy. Basically a sleepless night- I cannot remember a time when I've been so tired!!!! Yowzers.

So Thursday was spent trying to recover because Friday was preparation for Carniball!!! Which was a huge success- I'll write about that tomorrow!!!!

Most amazing anniversary

What a fantastic weekend we've had! We just got back from seeing the lion king, which was truly fantastic! We went out to dinn on Friday at Rowland, finally using the gift card that Anne and Dennis gave us for our birthdays and we went out with friends last night.

But the gifts! The gifts!

Friday started with gifts! Eric totally smoked me in the gifts department this time. The huge hit of the day was an iPad for me, as well as a mom charm bracelet. I got him an Andy bality print that I thought looked like the two boys together, but the iPad was the winner winner of the day.

Mary Frances

What a sweet little Valentine...

MD's visit and pictures of the cutest baby in all the land (except for his brother of course!!!)

Ok, so here are the pics from Gil's one month photo shoot- I know I am biased, but this is one CUTE baby.

http://www.photoreflect.com/store/thumbpage.aspx?e=8406151

And his personality is starting to come out and it is just precious. He is still a really mellow, low-key baby. He loves to sleep. He is definitely much more of a snuggler than Vake- MUCH more. He insists on being swaddled to go to sleep and he adores sleeping while he is being held. MY KIND OF BABY. Seriously. I could just snuggle-buggle with him all day.

We went to see the doctor today. Both boys are off the charts for height and weight. At three, Vake is 43 pounds and 39.5 inches tall. Gil at six weeks is 13 pounds 10 ounces and 23.5 inches tall. BIG boys.

We got the bill from the neonatologist a couple of days ago. Dr. Murray was with Gil during the first five scary minutes of his life. I started crying when I saw the services- she billed us for infant resusitation. Yowzers. I am so amazed by that. She went to work on December 29th at St. Mary's and saved my child's life. Obviously, it is her profession and I assume she likes it (she was warm and had a very kind bedside manner). But in doing her job, she literally changed the entire future for me and my family. Sort of takes your breath away, right?

Here's to the baby who made me a mama. It's been a joyous ride so far. I couldn't ask for more.

Happy birthday to my brave, funny, fun, crazy, smart, energetic three-year-old. May all your days be cupcake days.

Vake's Third Birthday Cake

This morning, when Vake went to school, I made his birthday cake for Friday. NOT TOO SHABBY, if you ask me.

I found the directions online. The cake is poundcake, cut into pieces.

The smokestack is a cake cone with marshmellow "steam" coming out of it. The wheels are oreos- big and small. The coal in the coal car is chopped up Hershey's kisses.

I wish I were more of a frosting master, but from a distance, the effect is really really good.

Can you believe my little baby is a big boy now? Crazy how fast time is going.

More Progress LOVE.

Seriously. LOVE it. If you do not, please never tell me.

What a Blessing

Went to the pediatric cardiologist this morning (who knew you had to get up at 6 to be on time for a 9:15 appt...ahhh the joys of two little guys!). Gil weighed 12 pounds 15 ounces. AND the really good news is that the cardiologist did a detailed exam, including an echocardiogram of the heart and RELEASED Gil from any more care. Thank God.

Vake's Pastel

I AM SO THRILLED. So about last April, I had Vake's pictures taken for his portrait- and I just got the first progress picture from the portrait artist- I LOVE it. I think it got his personality- obviously it is not done but I just LOVE it...
