Happy seven months, Gil!
And now he's sitting up!
At seven months, Gil is
- able to sit up;
- starting to army crawl across the room;
- is starting to recognize people;
- is (big shock) totally obsessed with grandmary;
- takes two good naps a day;
- loves solid foods;
- has a fantastic belly laugh;
- wears mostly 12 months sized clothes
- wears a size 4 diapers;
- reliably sleeps 12 hours a night;
- is willing to try eating Cheerios; and
- loves the pool.
This child is a total gift. What a precious gem.

How we know eric is a great dad
He hates the pool. He hates the sun. He hates being hot.
Who just spent 2.5 hours in the pool with vake?

We could get used to this.
Eric was a panelist at the virginia bar association meeting this weekend at the homestead. For those of you not from Virginia, it is one of the very very nicest Virginia resorts. It is in Hot Springs, about 2.5 hours from Richmond.
Vake and I went up there with Eric after work on Friday. We hung out at the pool and sandbox while Eric presented. It was amazing.
Here's my little man with a "spicy drink". We could both totally get used to this.

Cousins!
We just got to go up to Baltimore to have a little quality cousin time- we spent the morning with MF at the splash park. It was a huge huge hit.
My beautiful little niece relaxing.
My crazy bigman running in and out of the splashing.
And of course beloved Grandmary.
And the two cousins playing so nicely together.

Solid Food at Six Months
With baby Vake, I was in a huge hurry to see what he could or would do next. Be it crawling or cooing, I was obsessed with stats, milestones and accomplishments.
With baby Gil, I don't know what it is, but I haven't felt even vaguely tempted to pick up "What to Expect in the First Year". I guess it could be that the fates have blessed me with such a sweet little mellow soul- this child has his father's sweet personality. (I know, I know, I said it about Vake too, but this little Gil takes easygoing to a whole new level...)
At any rate, the pediatrician said that I could introduce solid foods at 4 months. But you know what? I was in no hurry. Months four and five came and went. Then finally...month 6. And we gave it a shot.
And you know what?
We loved it. Really really loved it.
I swear I get it why old ladies stop young moms in the grocery store. I love this baby.
And since he turned six months, we've added all kinds of fruits and veggies. YUM!!!!!!

Too much vacation bible school?
Vake looks at me today. "Jesus is my mommy."

The Boulevard Parade: Catching up!
(So sorry that this post looks so wonky- I am still getting used to the new blogspot- it is going to be great once I finally know how to really use it!)
So I've not been using my big camera nearly as much- honestly, for my purposes, the iphone winds up being almost everything I need.
We had a first-in-a-long-time event on the Boulevard in May (how can it even BE July already?)- a parade celebrating the return of troops.
They closed off the entire Boulevard to traffic- completely surreal.
It was incredibly moving.
This was a very difficult display to see.
Vake loved having a flag to wave!

Hot weekend
Wow, it was a hot one. Seriously, not even a fun hot. Just hot hot hot. Too hot to go to the pool (!) hot.
So what did we do? Erico had to work, so I loaded up some friends and we went to lunch. Yum. Not many things that ice cream won't fix
-and if ice cream can't fix it, then I invite you to consider a ride on a dinosaur. That's right- "discovering the dinosaurs" was in town, so we checked it out. I am embarrassed to say that all the children liked the bounce house the best.

Pediatrician's visit
Gil Martin is a light bite compared to his brother. Yesterday, Gil tipped the scales at 19 pounds 9 ounces- about 2 pounds less than his brother at this age. Gil is going to be my little delicate boy- only the 85th percentile for weight and the 95 percentile for height.
Sweet little baby boy took his shots incredibly well- no real fussing- and right as rain immediately after!
Hope everyone has a GREAT 4th. We celebrated by cleaning out Eric's office (freedom from clutter = fundamental right?)!

Six months! Already?
Oh this is one sweet little baby.
At six months, Gil is:
Wearing mostly 12 month clothes,
A size three diaper,
Eating four 8 ounce bottles a day,
Has just started veggies and thinks they are amazing,
Can sit by himself unaided for short periods of time,
Has two little bottom teeth,
Is able to reach and grab for objects,
Is able to pull up to all fours,
acts as though he wants to crawl backwards,
thinks his brother is hilarious,
takes two excellent naps and sleeps 12-13 hours a night,
Is probably shorter and lighter than vake was (we will know for sure after our doctor's appointment tomorrow), and
Has just the sweetest disposition.
We love you, baby Gil...
