Happy five months, little Gil

Oh gosh. My baby, my baby! At five months, Gil is:

Still as sweet as ever;
Just so easy to be around;
Settled into a great schedule (two naps a day);
In love with his gray elephants;
Seems to be smaller than his brother was at this age;
Wearing a size three diaper;
Wearing 6-12 month clothes;
Engages in a lot of social smiling;
Is a happy little laugher;
Can sit unassisted in a tripod sit for brief periods;
Is better at sitting in the bumbo seat than his brother was;
Doesn't have any teeth yet, but is starting to drool like he might teethe soon; and
Has finally gotten pretty good at a bottle.

Gil is just a little love bug. Vake was such a pumpkin but a complete action Jackson. Gil is much more mellow and much snugglier than his brother was. Vake, interestingly, is about the most tender big brother when he can be convinced to pay attention to his brother.

I'm so very very lucky to have been entrusted to be the mama to these two.

What a weekend!

We had so much fun this weekend- I am wiped out just thinking about it. We talked to Aunt Anne on the phone! (Doesn't he just look like a boy now, chatting it up with her?). I am afraid that Anne would report that the conversation is still a bit one sided.

We had some quality brother snuggle time!

We did some staring into space.

But our really big news is that the playroom transformation continued. We moved out the floating shelves that never were so stable, thank you very much masonry wall. Of course I had my best helper. Who was of course nudie.

And then we moved in this beauty. All the storage space you could ask for. Unbelievable. Getting it in nearly killed Eric...

And today I loaded it up and Eric put in tv and a DVD player. I do not think the significance of getting a great play space for the boys can be overstated.

And then we went to the pool. Good times, good times..

Still a baby

It's funny. Looking back over the posts I've written in the past (gulp!) five months since Gil was born, there's a clear theme. And it is SLOW DOWN! Maybe it is because Gil is my last. Maybe it is because his life itself is such a miracle. Maybe it is because he is such a delight. Maybe it is because Vake's already such a big big big boy. But I'd keep him this size forever.

Here he was napping today. And I know, he should be sleeping on his back, but he's already big enough to roll back to front and front to back and he likes to sleep like this. So did his brother. My babies.

Vake and Gil: five months later

They've had five months. Five months. If all goes ok, they'll get a lifetime. One of the (many) things that I think that my Mom did well when she was raising me was to give me a sense of responsibility and pride for my sister. I am so grateful that she did. I am so proud of Anne and her accomplishments. I just hope Vake and Gil are good good buddies.

Last day of school

My baby! So big! On Wednesday, he had his last day of his first year of preschool. Vake and huff both had great years. Miss Susan and miss Laura really loved them- I am so happy that we had teachers who "got" our little boy!

Because I am a neurotic woman, I asked for the second conference with the teachers. The feedback was good, although sweet miss laura did say that the only thing she wouldn't give Vake an "a-plus" on is crafts.

Knowing his father, this comes as no big shock.

Brothers!

Sue sent me these pictures of Eric and Brook at roughly the same ages that Vake and Gil are now (they are a little farther apart then E and B).  Harder to tell with the babies, but doesn't three year old Vake look a LOT like three year old Eric.  I guess it shouldn't surprise me so much, seeing as they are related.

Difficult Bend

Scene: 6 n. boulevard. Daddy is still at work. Mommy amd vake are eating popcorn on the floor.

V: (pointing to my bar exam wrinkle on my forehead). Mommy, you have a dangerous bend.

And scene.

What Eric Built

 It is so amazing to watch my little baby move through being a toddler to a full-on little boy.  Eric built the swingset for Mother's Day- so hard to believe that was two years ago now.  And now Vake is LOVING it.  The picture above is the view from Vake's bedroom window.

He plays so nicely with Brian and Matt's little boy- so sweet to be inside and see them having such a good time outside.

 And they are obviously having such good adventures!

Like His Mama?

Ok, I think it is pretty obvious that I am learning how to use the new blogger.  Ugh.  Ok.  We'll give it a shot.

These are pictures of me taken when I was about Vake's age (maybe a little younger).  I think it is pretty unbelievable how much I look like him (especially in the first picture) but not at all like him, all at the same time.

To me, Vake looks just like his father, but in this one, I definitely see a resemblance.
 And in this second one, I think we look a lot alike.

 But not in this one- I almost wonder if that's Anne....

My cool new clothes

Great minds think alike. I saw this outfit at Hanna Andersen and loved it. Loved it.

But also didn't buy it.

Then what arrived in the mail from Eric's aunt? That's right.

Love.

Crazy cakes!

It was wills' birthday on Friday and he wanted a Lego cake. What's a good godmother to do? Figure it out, of course. Man, I love that little boy.

And then, we had a reprisal for the cakewalk at his school. Yowzers.

I want to be the guest

So over my reunion weekend, we hosted a classmate of mine, her husband and their son.

There was some discussion between Vake and Peter about who got to use s toy first, and I called Vake over to remind him to let our guest have the first turn.

Without missing a beat, Vake said, "I want to be the guest."

I know, buddy.

Nascar weekend

So on Saturday, when I was in charge of this (that is, I was in charge of five little people and three teenage babysitters)...

Eric was at this! I've never been to a NASCAR event but he assures me that they are pretty amazing.

Eric and Grant went up there and tailgated and then watched the cars go around and around and around.

Good times.
