So Anne and Mary Frances had a great day. She's still getting her nutrition via an IV but Anne got to hold her and feed her a little breastmilk via bottle today so that's pretty exciting.
She got a little spongebath in her isolette yesterday- she was very feisty and not at all pleased with that program.
Anne's already a lot lot lot better. She's totally turned a corner and is getting around like a champ, which is wonderful.

She's Here!!!!
Anne's baby arrived on Tuesday night at 7:51pm. Her name is Mary Frances Elizabeth Rivera. She'll go by Mary Frances. She's a little peanut- tipping the scales at 3 pounds 13 ounces. Anne's doing well and so is Mary Frances. She's taking a little break in the NICU to get her weight up and then she and Vake will get to play together.

Happy Father's Day 2011!!!
Father's Day 2011 was a great day!!!!
Vake and I let Eric sleep late (which means 9:30 in this neck of the woods!). Vake entertained himself in part while waiting for Daddy to wake up by watching YouTube videos of "tractors and dumptrucks". Really, Vake? Why won't you focus on your ice dancing career????

Jury Trial Recap!
So the dust has settled and I'm sitting on the floor of the kitchen while Vake watches The Cat in the Hat.
Had SO much fun yesterday- while it lasted. We had Judge Nance, retired and very old school judge- he did not horse around at all. Think we got a jury seated after about 20 minutes! (That's a process that can take 2-3 hours in a sex case.) Anyway, both the ACA and I had really strong openings- I finally nailed it- I had practiced a couple of times with my court partner and had just been ok. Nice to know that apparently I play better than I practice.
Anyway, the direct and cross of Detective Davenport was uneventful and then the alleged victim took the stand. She was not good but good enough for her direct examination by the ACA but she had just a Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde moment when it was my turn. She was, in turns, angry and screaming at me or fighting me on unimportant details. Once we got to more important details and she tried to update the testimony that she had given at the preliminary hearing, I was really able to discipline her with the transcript from that hearing. She finally raised her hand like a student in school, started crying and then told me that she "needed to talk to her lawyer." I suspect that she wanted to get testifying guidance from the ACA, but it looked as though she was just scared and lying.
So, anyhow, at that point, the Judge ordered a ten minute recess, cleared the jury and made it clear to us that we should resolve the matter. The ACA made a misdemeanor domestic assault and battery offer- no probation, no registration offense.
Sad part is that neither party walked away happy. My client still wound up taking more time than he wanted to because of the pendant misdemeanor telephone charges. The ACA, who I think is a good lawyer and a good person, had to be so frustrated because she's taken the position (an extremely defensible one) that she will only settle domestic rapes in terms of years.
So that's that. And now that I've gotten it wrapped up, it is on to the felony murder I have in the hopper and hopefully more blog posts. It's Father's Day weekend so we'll spend some time with the Daddio this weekend.

This week!
Taren and Vake are getting some one-on-one time (the Hman and his family are out of town). Today, she let him skip his nap and they stayed at the pool- as a result, he is out cold at 6:40.
I've been working like a dog- have a big jury trial on Friday. The prep has been relatively smooth- we're almost to the shine your shoes stage (basically where there's nothing left to do but shine 'em).
We'll keep you tuned in.

Underwater!
ok, so the lack of posting has been somewhat ridiculous- and completely indefensible now that I've got my fancy new camera.
I can only blame it on the fact that I've got a jury trial on a rape case going on Friday. Should be fun but I've got miles to go before I sleep.
But even still, Mom and I made it to Baltimore for the second of Anne's two baby showers yesterday. Whoop!!! The rain came down on the way there and on the way back- arrgh- the drive home was 4.5 hours. Poor Mom had to drive with grumpy me in the Civic- which is a great around town car but NOT SO COMFORTABLE on the long car trips.
Then last night was one of our babysitter's (who also happens to be Uncle Neil's younger sister) graduation party. Poor hosts, their bartender just didn't show- so thank God Eric and our friend Grant were willing to work behind the bar.
