It is the little things

Slowly but surely, we're starting to get things settled. It would be nice if we could sell our house in Richmond. But I've got to believe that's going to work out for us.

We're hitting a rhythm though. I've got laundry machines. Vake's in school. And I got the great news yesterday that I am pretty close to getting admitted to practice in oregon- it looks like I just need to take some cle credits.

On Saturday, we walked down to the farmers market. My little one loves strawberries....

First day of school

Finally! The Internet is hooked back up and I can now post to the blog using the iPad and pictures that I take on the iPhone now synch to the iPad. Feels as though a new era has dawned.

Without further delay, here are the pictures of the first day of school at Roosevelt Elementary! Vake is going four mornings a week- he starts relatively early- at 815. Unfortunately, that also means that he's done by 11.

The craziest thing (also best) about this school is it is on the next block. Yippee. So on the first morning of school, we walked the block and a half.

And we're still unpacking!

It feels never ending but I actually think we are starting to get there.  Nothing's on the walls yet ( with the exception of the rob Tarbell- just because there happened to be a hook on the wall.  But the good news is that there's not really a room now that looks like an insane person lives here.

I've got all the boxes empty.  We actually did amazingly well in terms of breakage.  Casualties include one wine glass and some candlesticks.  Not too shabby.

What am I doing?  Well, while I am waiting for admission to the Oregon bar, I am trying to get the house cleaned up, get the yard cleaned up, and I am doing a lot of grocery shopping, meal planning, trips to the playground, and supervision of small people.

As soon as I get the Internet hooked up, (next Friday), I'll post pictures of the house.

Labor Day Weekend!

If I were any sort of a mother, I would have photo documented this entire weekend. Because I did not, you are just going to have to take my word for it that this weekend was truly action packed.

On Saturday, we spent the entire day unpacking and unloading from the house on eldorado. In a word, yuck. Yuck. Now, that is actually not 100 percent true- we did also go to the farmer's market and drumroll please, we bought a mattress. No bed, mind you, but a mattress. I've been scoping out beds for awhile and hopefully will be able to make up my mind sooner rather than later.

Sunday, we went to church- very small congregation of lovely lovely lovely much older people. Unfortunately, no youth program. Then, wait for it, we went to a rodeo and county fair. If you want to make sure that your east coast spouse wonders if she will ever fit it, take her to a rodeo.

To be fair, it was really really cool to see actual bucking broncos and vake rode rides to his heart's content.

Today, we unpacked, had lunch at a play McDonald's- vake loves them- and then went to the grocery store and bought hangers. Good times, good times!

The new house from Vake's perspective

So Vake and I spent a lot of quality time on Friday hanging out while Gil slept in the pack and play. (On a side note, I ventured out to Wal-mart here, one of the about 4 big stores here in town to buy said pack and play. Lets just say I found the experience totally overwhelming.)

We worked really hard to get basically the entire basement of the house on eldorado empty today. Now, for the unpacking and the figuring out where everything goes! Wheeee!

School does not start for Vake with the rest of the school, so while everyone else is starting on Tuesday, he's got some extra time with me. I think things are about to get a lot easier- because we knew that the house on eldorado was sort of a short term solution, we've been using it a little like a hotel room- with very little unpacked. Whew.

We are going to try to go to church tomorrow morning. It is strange- I am now the stereotypical housewife- I don't see very many people I know during the course of the day so I am dying to talk to Eric when he gets home. Eric, on the other hand, would be perfectly fine never talking to anyone again when he gets home.

Working on moving!

Today, while Eric was at work, I loaded and reloaded Eric's Yukon with stuff out of the basement and took it over to the new house. The boys were great. Totally flexible and cooperative during the whole thing.

So I probably moved about 25 or so boxes today- shouldn't be such a big deal except for the fact that our garage is about 10 big steps up from the house- so getting every box in is a project. Ugh

We're renting this house until our house sells and one of the stipulations is that we cannot change any of the decor until we actually take ownership. It is going to be hard not to do anything we buy! Wheeee!

And we're back!

Wow! What a month it has been.

Got a great result for a client in a life case- a big fat not guilty on the 20-life charge! Took about 20 years off my life getting there.

Got the house on the market! Wow! That was a project too!

Then got myself and the children across the country with all our earthly possessions.

We are in the process of getting settled now- we are staying in the tiny house that my mom and guests will stay in but we start renting our bigger house on Saturday. The movers are coming on Wednesday to help with that transition.

It is completely gorgeous here. Very very different from the east coast but pretty. Still getting used to everything! Ahhhh well- Rome was not built in a day!
