On the Road Again...

Vake took his first shoulder ride today- here he is trying to decide if Eric's hair is a delicious taste treat! We stopped on the drive back at the Newport News Welcome Center- we're getting ready for Sue and Brook's visit and Eric wanted to collect some brochures.

Vake also took a ride in a boat they had there.

Superdad!

I know it sounds like I am a throwback to the 1950s when I say that Eric's a great dad for handling parenting tasks, but given how hard he's been working our situation is a little different.

So you can imagine how impressed I was when I got stuck at court today until 6:30 and he walked to Jennifer and Edward's to get Vake, brought him home and fed him all before I got home.

AND I WON MY MOTION! Yee-haw!

Let's Give a Cheer- Daddy's on his way home!!!

Tonight we are picking Eric up from the airport- his flight is getting in at 10:45 pm- we are really fired up to have Daddy back home. I can safely say that I have no ability to be a single parent and I cannot wait for Eric to be back.

When V heard that Daddy was coming back, he got the flower pompoms out and did a little cheer!

I Heart Daddy and I Do Not Like Airplanes

Hmmm. Mommy keeps saying he's in Seattle. Where is that? Do you think it is somewhere further away than Huff's house? Somewhere further away than Williamsburg?

Oh, yes. Now I remember. You have to ride on a plane for eight hours to get there. Harrumph. Come home soon Daddy. Mommy and I are NOT doing that again without you any time soon.

Sitting and Seersucker

I was leaving the jail after interviewing some clients this week when I checked my messages. There was a message from Taren to call- I of course assumed that something was the matter but when I called, Taren told me that Vake had been sitting up all day!

This weekend, he's been sitting up to play with his toys for ten or fifteen minutes at a stretch. It is so hard to believe that my little baby is now able to sit independently- where did the time go???

I snapped a picture of him sitting by himself on the counter- he's so surprised and inquisitive in this picture.

And coincidentally, both Eric and Vake were dressed in red seersucker this afternoon- it is the perfect summertime fabric! This sweet little outfit was a gift from my little sister in my sorority, Courtney. Courtney grew up in Baltimore, hence the seersucker with the Maryland crab!

Good Morning and Good Luck, Daddy!

Eric's in Houston this week, so the V and I are hanging out by ourselves. Which is ok, although we miss Eric when he's not around.

Every morning, after I feed Vake, we go upstairs so that Vake and Eric can have some quality time together- and Vake's usually in a really good mood.

He was in a good mood like that this morning, so I took a couple of quick pictures.

I also took a short video of him- I thought he'd be talking a little more, but he was mostly content with just rocking backwards!

What a fun day

So I haven't had a lot of experience on the receiving end of Mother's Day. All in all, though, the day was pretty excellent. Vake woke up in a fantastic mood. Then, he and I took a walk through Carytown and people kept on saying "Happy Mother's Day" to me, which was pretty incredible.

Then, I got the best present from Eric- he didn't work this afternoon and we took Vake to the Museum District Mother's Day House Tour. As cheesy as I know it sounds, getting some quality time with both of them in the gorgeous weather that we are having was really all I could have asked for for Mother's Day.

And as if that wasn't enough, we had dinner with Chuck, Julie and Neil- burgers on the grill and delicious desserts with good friends! What a day!
