So proud of us: bathroom tile

This morning, here's what the boys' bathroom looked like.

With the help of our nanny's wonderful husband, we got the wallboard up this week. Last night, we went to the Home Depot and got a bunch of white subway tile and this morning, I ran out to diamond home improvement and got some shelf pieces.

And then we tiled, and tiled. And tiled. We started by about 11 and were wrapping it up by about 6.

But it looks amazing. Truly truly amazing. I am so happy with the progress.

So tomorrow, we will grout and I will work on getting all the wallpaper off! Wheee!

The weekend of light fixtures

Eric and I have tried to regroup and prioritize what we are working on in the house each week. The real trick is not to bite off more than we can chew.

So this weekend, we planned three projects- a trip to the dump with all the yucky carpet, removal of a bunch of doors we didn't need, and the installation of a bunch of light fixtures.

Check it out- how awesome is this bathroom going to be once the ugly floor is gone.

The antler chandelier in the living room- so fun.

And my grandmother's chandelier in the dining room.

New bathroom shower curtain

I am posting this from my phone, so forgive the crummy quality of this post but I am so thrilled with my new shower curtain.

Easy and I have a tiny little bathroom with a 1960s tile shower. I loved the tile but couldn't figure out exactly how to manage it. We thought about redoing the bath, but have decided that a new floor and a crisp paint job are much more affordable. So what to do with the tile- well- we went for it with a coral and turquoise combo. Anyone who knows me knows that is me being a huge risk taker! Behold!

They're real and they're magnificent...

After 6 long weeks of waiting, we've got two, count them, two new sofas. They are awesome and make everything else in the room look totally shabby. So so so excited to have them! Wheee!

Sneak peek of the boys' new rooms

So we went from unpleasant ancient wallpaper to this- cheerful green for Gil's room and happy blue for Vake's.

And vake wanted red curtains. How much do we love the jc Penney Roman shades for little boys rooms. Bargain.

What a difference a weekend makes!

I'll post pictures of the boys repainted rooms as soon as we get their ceiling fans in, but whilst I was painting Gil's room, Eric was demoing the old 1980s tub...ugh. They built it to last and it was a pain to get it all out! Here's the view from the top of the stairs.

Awesome 80s wallpaper

The destroyed bathtub surround. New bathtub arrives tomorrow and then we will get busy tiling.

Renovating the house!

It seems so odd to be writing about it without any pictures to show- and Eric and I are doing it exactly the opposite way that we did the Boulevard house- mostly because there's not a lot of demo and what we are working on is mainly painting and (hopefully) tiling.

So two weekends ago, we took out the old yucky living room carpet. It cost us $16 to get rid of it at the dump. This past weekend, we took down all the wallpaper in the boys' rooms and painted Vake's room.

I got an estimate from the plumber to take out the old bathtub upstairs in the boys' bathroom and to put in a normal tub and shower. It is a lot cheaper if we do the demo, so our big project this weekend is to demo the area around the tub! Wheeeeee- I've never really done demo like this so I am a little afraid. But even more than afraid, totally thrilled to be getting rid of the crummy crummy bathtub that feels like a death trap to get the boys in and out.
